The families of students enrolled in this fall's MFL MarMac after school program at the Wetlands Centre are invited to an open house. This is an opportunity for your children to share their discoveries with you! We'll have snacks and stations set up to explore!
Driftless Area Geology Field Trip: Waukon Junction with Phil Burgess
Saturday, November 3rd
Local geology expert, Phil Burgess will lead us on a geology field trip to a roadcut and dry creek bed near Harpers Ferry. We'll search the creek bed for stromatolites and other fossils. Recommended for adults and supervised children 5+ years of age. Note that we will be hiking along steep slopes and over rugged terrain.
We will meet at the Wetlands Centre at 1pm where Phil will give a brief explanation of what we'll be looking at. We will then carpool to the field trip site, which is located along the road going to Harpers Ferry. Field Trip is contigent on suitable weather. Check our website and/or Facebook page for updates.

Saturday, November 10th
Join us for an introduction to Geocaching and learn how to explore the outdoors with this high-tech treasure hunt. Geocaching experts will share their knowledge with the group in a short introduction, followed by a guided hunt for nearby geocaches.
Pikes Peak Geology Hike with Phil Burgess
Sunday, November 11th
Phil Burgess will lead us on a geology field trip at Pikes Peak State Park, near McGregor, Iowa. Learn about how the Wisconsin and Mississippi River valleys were carved and about the bedrock formations comprising the bluffs. The group will hike down along the boardwalk to Bridal Veil Falls and will learn more about the unique microbial tufa cone at its base.
Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about this area with one of our local experts! We will meet at the Wetlands Centre at 1:00pm and will carpool to Pikes Peak. The field trip is open to all ages and includes a hike up and down hills along boardwalk trails at Pikes Peak. Any changes to the schedule due to inclement weather will be posted on our website and Facebook page.
Jolly Nature Elves

We're getting ready for Santa's visit and we need some little elves to help us out! Come and help us to decorate the Wetlands Centre tree and make various nature-inspired ornaments! We'll have cocoa, cookies and we'll even venture outside for a bit if it's nice. Fun for kids and adults!
